The HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2010 will be held on 5, 6 and 7 February and will be held for the first time at its new Host Hotel, Hilton Colombo.
"In 2010, we are attempting to break new grounds which will immensely benefit Sri Lankan designers and its related industry, if all goes as per plan and we are confident it will, we should be a tier 2 fashion week in real terms." says Ajai V Singh, founder and director of Colombo Fashion Week.

HSBC continues to power Colombo Fashion Week as the Title Sponsor, commenting on this strategic partnership Nick Nicolaou Chief Executive Officer HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives said, "We are happy to be the principal sponsor of the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week for the third consecutive year. This event has helped propel the local fashion industry to greater heights by giving opportunity to new and existing designers to showcase their collection and take them beyond the ramp. This has also resulted in a positive strategic fit between the Sri Lankan Fashion Design Industry and the Apparel Industry to attract potential retailers from across the world. In addition, the event has created an opportunity for our high networth clients to experience a truly international fashion extravaganza, and hope the event will continue be a great success".

"Its been a policy of Sri Lanka Tourism to support events that build image for the country and generates a positive word of mouth overseas; HSBC Colombo Fashion Week is one such event. It has progressively grown to support Sri Lanka's fashion design industry and make its mark as an important fashion initiative in the region. Last year it generated tremendous international media publicity (Rs.20million). Most international fashion week's work with tourism institutions of their respective countries as it builds and appeals to the creative segment, which are also among the targeted groups for tourism. Hence we see a synergy there. We wish HSBC Colombo Fashion week all the best to go and achieve another significant result this year” said Bernard Goonetilleke, Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2009 generated significant exposure in international publicity and this year as with all aspects of the event, aims only to out-do its own yearly predecessor with features in Vogue, Elle and The Hindu.
This year, HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2010 has signed MOUs with Russian Fashion Week, Miami International Fashion Week and Malaysia Fashion Week. There is now an increased opportunity for our local designers and an escalation of the committee’s five year plan to uplift the local fashion industry through exposure and interaction and develop its retail potential. The designers who participate and Sri Lankans who view the show will be able to see both, the potential of its own designers and to see them alongside reputed international designers, with new collections of all of these gifted designers!
With the retail opportunities growing for Sri Lankan designers both from within and outside the island, the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2010 aims to open windows to international buyers. Having registered 4 buyers last year, the event hopes to see an increase in the number of registered international buyers this year.
